THE FOUR VIRTUES

Four principles for everyday recovery.

The four cardinal virtues are guiding principles, not a test of personal worth. People can practise them gradually and return to them when life becomes difficult.

Wisdom symbol
01 / WISDOM

Thoughtful Choices

Wisdom means considering the situation clearly, learning from experience and thinking about consequences before acting. In recovery, this might mean recognizing a trigger and choosing a supportive response rather than reacting automatically.

Courage symbol
02 / COURAGE

Facing What Matters

Courage means taking meaningful action even when we feel afraid, uncertain or uncomfortable. In recovery, this might mean asking for help, being honest about a craving or having a difficult conversation.

Justice symbol
03 / JUSTICE

Living With Integrity

Justice means treating others and ourselves with honesty, fairness, compassion and respect. In recovery, this might mean taking responsibility, respecting boundaries and allowing trust to rebuild over time.

Temperance symbol
04 / TEMPERANCE

Intentional Action

Temperance means practising balance and self-regulation rather than letting every impulse dictate our actions. In recovery, this might mean pausing during anger, using coping strategies or reaching out for support.

THE WHOLE IS GREATER

The Virtues Work Together.

Wisdom helps us understand. Courage helps us act. Justice guides how we treat others. Temperance helps us respond intentionally. The aim is progress and practice—not perfection.
